
The Federal Government of Nigeria has banned the sale and consumption of local gin, popularly called Ogogoro in all parts of the country. This ban was given on Monday 8th June, 2015 following the death of some people in Rivers and Ondo states due to food poisoning purposed to have caused by drinking of the said local gin (ogogoro).
The government however confirmed that the death toll in Rivers State
had risen to 38 and 18 in Ode-Irele, Ondo State, because of the
consumption of this ogogoro.
