The police in Lagos State have arrested a driver, identified as Utebor, for the death of a lady in his apartment in Baruwa Estate in Ipaja Area of Lagos State.
The incident happened on Friday as the suspect picked up the victim
around his estate in a bus stop in Baruwa Estate while the victim was waiting for transportation. According to the taxi driver she asked for money and the driver told her no money but took her to his house and while making love to her the girl gave up the ghost. A woman in the neighborhood ran and alerted the police in the Ipaja division and the suspect was arrested while the victim's corpse is in the mortuary.
Reports gave it that nobody knew the victim’s name
and address, just as no member of her family had shown up.
A Punch correspondent, however, learnt that the suspect, in his
confession told the police that he had picked the victim from the bus stop and
taken her home when she suddenly died.
Another source explained that the suspect had continued to
plead his innocence, saying he only helped the deceased and did not have sex
with her.
He said, “The man did not deny taking the girl home. But he
explained that while she was in his room, she started shouting that she had a
headache, and before he knew what was going on, she fell down and died.
“He said he was confused and didn’t know what to do. But
obviously, that may not be all the truth.”
Punch correspondent, who visited the area, observed that
residents were not willing to talk about the incident, as they claimed that
they were not aware.
It was, however, learnt that the matter had been transferred
to the Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba, where the suspect was
undergoing interrogation.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Nwosu,
confirmed the incident.
He said, “We have arrested the man. As I speak with you, the
matter is under investigation at the DCI, to know what actually killed the
lady. The deceased’s name and address are unknown.”
